Hello I often listen to your postss (especially 60-early 80's Jazz and fusion black music). Thanx for bringing all these rarities.

It's NOT India Navigation but rather "WHYNOT", A Japanese label that was a division of Trio Records (which I think had swallowed Kenwood Corp :) Later SONY swallowed all of that {:[ <-

NOPE!! BUT Could have been a cost saver. Wouldn't need an art department after one design. Maybe a top exec liked it. OR thought it helped with "branding." ETC etc etc. Or maybe someone just said "Why Not?" ;>)

As long as we are on the subject whyNOT ---

After glancing through my "stacks" I found some other WHYNOTS. Air (2 records), Curson, Chico Freeman, and Charles Sullivan all made good recordings for this label. There are others I'm sure - it was a happening little label. The "Air/Threadgill" stuff was/is really terrific.

Excellent! Thank you!

This is a very lyrical album. What a pity it's not available for wider distribution. Then again the same can be said for a thousand other jazz albums. Thanks very much for the posting.

Many thanks.
This record has not been easy to find in my part of the world.
Immensely looking forward to hearing it shortly.

PS (Re above 'Label' comments) - AMG reckons issued on Japanese Trio/WhyNot , and "also available briefly on India Navigation".
For what it's worth...

Yeah, 'serviceton' I checked the Labels Listing Project ( http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Labels/indianav.htm
) and "AfriSong" was released briefly on India Navigation (I.N.). I wasn't aware of that. That also goes for the two "Airs", the Chico Freeman, and the Curson. Maybe another one or so. I.N. was a really good label with many other great albums. All those Murrays and Newtons were great albums giving a peek at the 70s Loft scene in New York. I wonder if anyone has the "masters" and the "rights" to reissue that catalogue. Seems to me it SHOULD be done (both as vinyl with the original covers AND in the CD format) - There are some titles I don't have AND would be happy to purchase. Notably, Pharoah's "Pharoah (Harvest Time)," Freeman's "Kings of Mali" and Jenkin's "Solo Concert." "Alternate Spaces" by McBee would be good too.

I know this isn't exactly a request line but if anybody knows urls for mp3 or flac downloading of ANY OF THE ABOVE ALBUMS I would love it.

Anyway, THANKS to "vesper" and others for doing so many fine shares on this blog. I hope you all understand how much this adds (at a reasonable cost - mainly time) to the lives of POOR old geezers like me.

Hi Vesper,

Sorry to bother you mate. Like someone else in a previous comment for another post, all I'm recieving in the LIX link page is a form to input numbers and letters, it's happening for every album, and no matter how many times I type in the letters it never takes me to the download link... Bit of a pain!

Sorry!

J.
