PHAROAH SANDERS - LIVE AT THE EAST (1971)
my kinda tribute to bacoso, who originally posted this gem somewhere by late 2006, ripped from a vinyl copy. this is ripped from the remastered japanese paper sleeve reissue, which, seemingly, puts the tracks in proper order and uncuts the lumkili track, previously split over the two sides of the vinyl. as you may know, orgy's back catalogue is well and alive courtesy of ish and simon666.

Bought this as a cut out in the late 70's and recently got the japanese cd. Always thought this was one of Sanders's best. It's nice to have it not split over two LP sides. This one really deserves to be more widely available. Just think there is probably more from this concert sitting in the vaults somewhere!
Hi Vesper,
what a beautiful album. I love the setup of 'lumkili' with the bells and McBee floating over Bonner's harmonium. It all seems carefully orchestrated and gloriously free at the same time ....
There's a female vocalist on "Healing Song" ?
Vesper, thanks so much for this great music!! your blog is amazing!
best regards,

pharoah's music means so much to me... thanks for posting this unheard gem... h.k
looking forward to hearing the unbroken version of lumkili.
many thanks
i need to drop everything i am doing and spend a solid week at this blog, what with all of the crazy-ill sounds...
cool site, all.
Greetings Vesper
Marvellous post! Thank you!!!
I'm also joining you to honour bacoso and his wonderful orgy blog. We will miss it.
One Love

Thanks vesper - always a pleasure to come here and find something nice. Thank you.
wow, i don't have this album. thanks very much.
This is a coup for me; I've saw Pharaoh perform at The East in Bklyn years ago. It was an amazing experience--he brought some spectators to tears(I'll never forget that). Here at The East I also saw Sun Ra 'round when "Space is The Place" came out. Great memories indeed; thanks for this album.
this is amazing, thanks much for it
This is some of the nicest stuff Pharaoh ever recorded, thanks for sharing Vesper.
I love the stuff by PHaroah from this era. Thanks
very nice followup to the vinyl, thanks
very cool, thanks!
Hi Vesper,
Expanded the links to include a Norman Connors sideman section in my post of Norman Connors – “Dance of Magic” (1972), so this had to be there!
All the best,
Simon from Never Enough Rhodes
