Vesper: All I can say is "whoa" again. I have to admit, I didn't know this one existed. Were these Cds issued on P-Vine orignally? Either way, thank you. One more question: Do you know if Elvin Jones and Caliman played together on other recordings before or after this?

Thank you vesper for the introduction to Mr. Caliman. I didn't know this player before. First listen brings to mind early Joe Henderson to my ear.

I tend to prefer playing that's a bit less melodic than what's here, but this is a fine set.

Regards,

Burning Blue Soul, thanks for the 'whoas' :) These recordings were first released by Catalyst, P-Vine is only handling the reissues. Plus, as far as I know, Jones and Caliman never played together beyond that date.

Guys, time to disappoint you a bit since I don't own Hadley's Iapetus or any of his Maintream LPs (did I hear Katonah claiming in comments that he had????). I guess these series is closed, temporarily I hope. I actually have no idea of what the next post will be.

Elvin still sounds good!(1977!)
And Caliman brings back memories of the great master, though I never heard of this fantastic player...
Again, many thanks!

Hi Vesper,
I’ve linked to your page in my post of Elvin Jones – “The Main Force” (1976). Connections are Jones (of course) and also bassist David Williams.
All the best,
Simon
